Position Title: Health Occupations Teacher - Grades 9-12 - 0.50 FTE (Auburn/Guilford/East/Jefferson)
Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays (can be flexible if needed)
Times: 7:30-2:00 p.m. (19.5 hours per week)

Requirements:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Illinois
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in long-term care or a related healthcare setting. Experience in teaching or mentoring is preferred.
- Must have or be able to obtain an ANATP/BNATP Instructor Code for Illinois Department of Public Health

SUMMARY:
Plans and carries out the instructional program in the clinical area which includes the experience within the hospital, classroom instruction integrated with the hospital experience, and experience in related health and social agencies in the community.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Responsible to the coordinator for planning and administration of the total program for her clinical area.
- Keeps abreast of new trends and developments in the clinical field, and in education, especially in vocational and practical nursing education.
- Makes a constant study of the needs of the patients in the clinical area in order to enable her to include all of these needs in her teaching program for her students.
- Plans for experiences in any area where students should receive such experiences.
- Assists in interpreting the program for key workers in any areas where students go for clinical experience.
- Assists the student to correlate the pre-clinical theory and practice with the clinical experience.
- Spends a major part of her time supervising the students giving nursing care.
- Assists and teaches students to keep accurate records of clinical experiences.
- Seeks cooperation of the supervisor in planning individual assignments.
- Assists the student in making clinical studies and conducts individual conferences relating to these.
- Orients new students to the department.
- Have on hand a tentative written plan for the lesson of the day, including objectives.
- Takes an active part in the faculty organization.
- Evaluates student progress and achievement and keeps accurate records of these, one copy of which is made available to the student and is discussed with the student for the purpose of assisting the student toward improvement.
- Participates in counseling and guidance of students.
- In the absence of the coordinator, assumes the coordinating responsibilities as assigned.
- Assumes any other duties as may from time to time be delegated by the supervisor and the supervisor may make any adjustment in the scope of responsibilities as outlined above which will be in the best interest of the school district.
- All administrative actions must be in concert with the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the strategic plan of the Rockford Board of Education.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
A registered nurse with a minimum of two years nursing experience, who has no other duties while engaged in the training program. An instructor shall be required to have one year of experience as a registered nurse in one or both of the following areas:
- Teaching an accredited nurse's training program.
- Caring for the elderly or the chronically ill of any age through employment in a nursing facility, extended care unit, geriatrics department, chronic care unit, hospice, swing bed unit of a hospital, or any other long-term care setting.
Must hold a current Illinois license, current CPR Certification and update on a yearly basis. A copy must be provided to Supervisor of Practical Nursing. Valid drivers’ license required.
- Additional requirements include:A registered nurse who has successfully completed a department sponsored evaluator workshop.
- An individual who has no fiduciary connection with the facility by which the candidate is employed or will be employed within thirty days of the evaluation.
